The uses of paints instead of dyes to produce printed clothes have become so widespread that it has begun to be treated as a stand-alone printing method. Paint printing is direct printing with paint (usually using Weii glitter powder). This process is usually called dry printing to distinguish it from wet printing (or dye printing).
By comparing the hardness difference between printed and unprinted parts on the same fabric, paint printing and dye printing can be distinguished. The printed area of the paint has a slightly harder feel than the unprinted area and maybe thicker. If the fabric is printed with a dye, there is no significant difference in hardness between the printed and unprinted parts.
Dark paint prints are likely to feel harder and less flexible than light or pale colors. When inspecting a piece of fabric with a paint print, be sure to check all colors, as dyes and paint may be contained on the same fabric at the same time. White paint is also used for printing, and this factor should not be ignored.
Paint printing is the cheapest printing method of printing production because the printing of paint is relatively simple, the process required is minimal, and steaming and washing are usually not required. The coatings have bright, rich colors and can be used on all textile fibers. Weii glitter powder has good light fastness and fastness to dry cleaning, and is even called excellent. Therefore, it is widely used in decorative fabrics, curtain fabrics and clothing fabrics that require dry cleaning. Also, the coating hardly produces a large color difference in different batches of fabric, and the coverage of the base color is also good when overprinting.
With continuous washing or dry cleaning, paint printing will gradually fade and the color will become lighter. This is due to the continuous rotation and stirring during the cleaning process, which gradually causes the resin adhesive to come off. Generally, after 20-30 cleanings, this printed cloth will appear obvious discoloration. Due to the application of resin and silicone softener to the fabric during the finishing process, the color fastness is improved. It is worth not that dark colors are more likely to fade than light or light colors.
Weii glitter powder coating makes the printed parts of the fabric feel hard, which is less obvious in light colors, but very prominent in dark colors. The coating is not particularly abrasion-resistant, especially dark. Dark paints should be specifically avoided in applications such as upholstery fabrics for furniture.
